Grades 9–11 | 1 Credit | Thursdays, 2026–2027
Course Overview
Discover the joy of speaking Spanish through a living, Charlotte Mason-inspired approach! This full-year class meets once a week for 90 minutes and is designed for true beginners in high school. Students build real-world communication skills through short, engaging lessons featuring Gouin series (action-based storytelling with gestures), lively pair and group conversations, student narrations, songs, and cultural exploration of Latin American countries and foods.
Highlights include hands-on “mercado” role-plays where students pretend to shop with play money and props, plus gentle exposure to vocabulary and structures through context rather than heavy drills. Homework is light and joyful: 15–20 minutes daily using See it and Say it Flip Flop Spanish Level 1 cards, plus a quick recording or copywork to build speaking confidence.
By the end of the year, students will confidently handle greetings, descriptions, likes/dislikes, daily routines, food, and simple shopping — all while earning 1 high school foreign language credit (Tennessee standards-aligned, with documented participation, recordings, and portfolios). Perfect for homeschoolers who want practical, usable Spanish in a warm, habit-forming environment. Limited to 15 students.
